As a thoracic pathologist, I have interests in tumor biology that are related to studies of protein expression in humans and animal models. Tissue proteins represent a final functional element of gene expression, and as such they are important targets for diagnosis, prognostication and treatment. I have studied and developed significant experience in tumor protein expression profiling utilizing tissue microarrays. My research interests in interstitial lung diseases (ILD) are guided by clinical needs of a large university medical center. I have collaborated on projects evaluating lung toxicity in the setting of solid organ transplantation and in evaluation of lung toxicity in genetically modified viral infection and mechanisms of acute lung injury utilizing animal models. As a pulmonary pathologist, I have many roles, including subclassifying ILD in humans and histological evaluation of lung injury in animal models.
